Theories Hanging Out to Dry
You can think of my theories as laundry. First I slosh them around in my head for awhile. Then when I talk to others about them (or post on my blog), I am rinsing them with other's thoughts and opinions. Next, they go out on the line to dry. I'm not wearing them yet. I need time to process them. I don't necessarily believe them yet. At some point, though, they will dry. I'll take them down and fold them and they will become part of my belief system--no longer free to flap in the wind. When I talk about theories here I'm talking about Mary's ramblings. When it comes to essential doctrines--I'm wearing those clothes with confidence and no one can peel them off (just ask my older sister, Rebecca, about her efforts to peel me out of a certain patchwork dress--but that is a story for a future entry).
